Follow this unique programme to discover the joy of living with less items and discover how liberating and fulfilling life becomes when you learn to live with less. The premise of this book is simple: if you don’t love it, lose it! Many people think that the more they own, the more contented and happy they will be – their lives become defined by their possessions. In fact, the opposite is often true: the more we have, the less happy and contented we are in mind, body and spirit. Decluttering expert Mary Lambert explains how having too much clutter can stop you moving forward in life, and how learning to let go of items we neither love or need is liberating and fulfilling. The challenge starts with an inventory of your personal possessions, then you begin the process of clearing out your items, addressing each area at a time, from clothes, to jewellery, to hobby items. Once you've tackled your personal items, you can get started on the rest of your household goods.

BOOK EXCERPT:

Discover your ability to be brave in times of adversity with Courage: The Joy of Living Dangerously—from one of the greatest spiritual teachers of the twentieth century. Courage is not the absence of fear, says Osho. It is, rather, the total presence of fear, with the courage to face it. This book provides a bird’s-eye view of the whole terrain—where fears originate, how to understand them, and how to call on your inner strength to confront them. In the process, Osho proposes that whenever we are faced with uncertainty and change in our lives, it is actually a cause for celebration. Instead of trying to hang on to the familiar and the known, we can learn to enjoy these situations as opportunities for adventure and for deepening our understanding of ourselves and the world around us. Having courage is more than just heroic acts in exceptional circumstances. It’s a necessity to lead authentic and fulfilling lives on a day-to-day basis. This is the courage to change when change is needed, the courage to stand up for our own truth, even against the opinions of others, and the courage to embrace the unknown in spite of our fears—in our relationships, in our careers, or in the ongoing journey of understanding who we are and why we are here. Courage also features meditation techniques specifically designed by Osho to help people cope with their fears. Osho challenges readers to examine and break free of the conditioned belief systems and prejudices that limit their capacity to enjoy life in all its richness. He has been described by the Sunday Times of London as one of the “1000 Makers of the 20th Century” and by Sunday Mid-Day (India) as one of the ten people—along with Gandhi, Nehru, and Buddha—who have changed the destiny of India. Since his death in 1990, the influence of his teachings continues to expand, reaching seekers of all ages in virtually every country of the world.

BOOK EXCERPT:

Excerpt from The Joy of Living We always had a big dinner on Memorial Day. Mom always dressed chickens, and we had fresh peas out of the garden and new potatoes. Fried chicken was more work than that it is now. In fact, most people buy it already cooked now, but it isn’t as good. I had invited Mary Louise Wise, and she had stayed all night. When Bill and Dick got there, Lucile suggested we walk down the railroad track. I went in the house to tell Mom where we were going. She said, “Velma, you let Mary Louise have the boyfriend, and you help me with dinner.” I said, “Oh, Mom, I like him.” So she said, “Oh, well, go on. I can get dinner on.” I think she was happy to see me quit moaning after Buddy. Well, Dick was sure enough to make me forget Buddy. He was tall with brown hair and soft brown eyes, very handsome, and I loved his sense of humor. We all walked down the tracks, and when we got to the creek, we walked along it a little way. Dick came up behind me and grabbed me and acted like he was going to throw me in the creek, then pulled me up against him. My heart did a few loops, and I thought, I’m falling for him!

This is a cheerful and optimistic book on the pleasures to be found every day.Intended for those seeking the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, the author points out that you should find the jewels strewn along the way instead. Marden offers twenty-six chapters of common-sense advice for the average man or woman who is overworked, striving and struggling to get ahead—what he believes to be the American way of life. With chapters including “The Strain to Keep Up Appearances,” and “Postponed Enjoyment,” the author offers hopeful, inspiring, and illuminating messages and ideas, pointing out that happiness is more a condition of mind than of environment, and he offers the reader many opportunities to find joy in the common things found in daily life. Pointing out that there is a positive chemistry in a cheerful mind, so therefore health and happiness are related, Marden goes on to show how happiness can be cultivated.
