"Fans of John Grisham will find much to like here." —Library Journal Confession is good for the soul, but it could mean death to an ambitious young lawyer. Assistant DA Holt Douglas has made a career of getting confessions from criminals. With a confession in hand, he knows a guilty plea is soon to follow. In the midst of professional success, Holt is haunted by a secret—a lie he buried in the grave of his best friend. With obsessive prosecutorial zeal, Holt reopens a cold case involving the death of the town’s wealthiest citizen. The man’s death was ruled a suicide, but Holt suspects murder. Facing fierce opposition, he is determined to expose the killer. Holt slowly begins to unravel the facts. And comes face-to-face with his own guilty conscience. With his job, his relationship with the woman he loves, and his future at risk, Holt skirts the boundary between truth and lies, confession and hypocrisy, redemption and ruin. BOOK EXCERPT:

Confessions abound-some of them quite unexpected-in Sheldon Siegel's new legal thriller. Mike Daley doesn't go to confession much since he left the priesthood twenty years ago and became a lawyer, but that doesn't stop his old friend, Father Ramon Aguirre, from trying to get him there. "It wouldn't kill you to go to church once in a while," he tells Mike. But it does kill someone. For several months, a ruinous sexual harassment suit has been building against the San Francisco Catholic Archdiocese, and when the plaintiff's lawyer is found dead, an apparent suicide, an almost audible sigh of relief is heard in certain quarters. But that is before the police find evidence of murder. Even worse-the evidence points to Father Aguirre. Mike and his ex-wife law partner, Rosie, jump in to take the priest's case, but what started out as difficult soon appears impossible as forensics, witnesses, and secrets from Father Aguirre's past all incriminate their client. Soon, their wits are the only things keeping the priest from a life sentence or worse, and wits simply may not be enough-unless they can conjure up a miracle of their own.

BOOK EXCERPT:

Lyotard approaches his subject by returning to his earliest phenomenological training, rearticulating Augustine's sensory universe from a vantage point imaginarily inside the confessant's world, a vantage point that reveals the intense point of conjuncture between the sensual and the spiritual, the erotic world and the mystical, being and appearance, sin and salvation. Lyotard reveals the very origins of phenomenology in Augustine's narrative, and in so doing also shows the origins of semiotics to lie there (in the explication of the Augustinian heavens as skin, as veil, as vellum).

BOOK EXCERPT:

Make the Confession I am Healed in Jesus' Name is written as a tool and resource encouraging believers of Christ to tap into their supernatural inheritance which was made possible because of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. Sickness remains in the earth realm because God has not called His children home unto eternal heaven, and the last enemy (death) has not been destroyed. (1st Corinthians 15:26) Christians must know their ancestral heritage, the Creator and architect of the gift of healing, God the Father. The Lord Jesus Christ has called us out of darkness, and has placed us into His marvelous light. In the light of God dwells the fullness of God the Father. Well, if we dwell in the fullness of God, than there is no other choice other than believing that God can, and will heal every sickness and disease that encroaches upon our bodies, according to the faith that we exercise in His word. In the fullness of God dwells excellence which translates into good health, and healing. Make the Confession, I Am Healed. This is not a disclaimer to ignore medical practitioners' prognosis, advice, or the use of legalized prescribed medication, however, this book is intended to encourage believers to apply their faith when medical illnesses and injuries present themselves. Christians should seek medical assistance routinely, plan annual physicals to ward off sicknesses through the education and familiarization of our bodies. Being intimate with the condition of your body defies or deters premature death, and long term illnesses. Be encourage, because we have a promise that God will satisfy us with long life. (Deuteronomy 28) God desires that we live in good health and prosper even as our soul prospers. (3 John 2)
