BOOK EXCERPT:

War hero, Matt McCormick has earned a respectable badass reputation in Afghanistan; but his enemy has moved west. Having special skills useful to the fight, he goes undercover; not for the military, but for the feds. The audacious, self-sacrificing hero escapes, and heads home to NEK Vermont, to his ill-fitting reputation for good looks and moral conduct; but his life has changed forever. Under capricious circumstances, he’s surprisingly catapulted into a new investigation, where his two diametrically-opposed worlds collide, and he finds himself, once again, in the presence of his enemy. Lives get shattered and lost as yesterday’s failures chafe the day. Surprises abound, and winning this battle will take, not only his badass training, but his blood, guts and grit. Faint-hearted, but savvy journalist, Andrea Daye is any editor’s dream; but her personal life has gone sideways. Oblivious to her new husband’s past, she’s abhorred to find agents, lurking in shadows as evidence of his corruption rises to the surface. Trusting no one, her innocent, but sassy equivocations set her free-falling, not only into criminal charges, but into the arms of love. The Other Side of Fear is a story to savor.

BOOK EXCERPT:

It seems laughably inadequate to call Julia Fehrenbacher s On the Other Side of Fear a collection of poetry. It is that, of course graceful, lyrical, wise poems about life, love, doubt, faith and the sweet, simple anatomy of a moment. But it s more than that. On the Other Side of Fear is an invitation to shed the weight of your past, get naked and real and wide-eyed awake to the undeniable poetry of it all. Reading Julia is like waking up to find your dream is still there, all around you, unabashedly grand and utterly obtainable. Her poems resonate with a precise, astonishing power, and each piece of Julia s art is like a breath of rarified air. On the Other Side of Fear feels like coming home to the home you always wish you had, to the home you deserve, to the home you ve been carrying around inside you without ever realizing it was there, accessible and welcoming, the whole time. Read these poems and fall in love with your beautiful, imperfect self; in Julia s words, slow way down/ get close and closer/ listen like crazy to your life. BOOK EXCERPT:

Jesus didn't say that the world would know we are his followers by our biting rhetoric, our political leanings, our charity work, or even by our knowledge of Scripture. He said the world would know us by our love for one another. Yet it's so easy to put others at arm's length, to lash out, to put up walls. Deidra Riggs wants us to put our focus on self-preservation aside and, like Jesus, make the first move toward reconciliation. In One, Riggs shows readers that when Jesus offered himself up in our place, he was not only purchasing our salvation but also setting an example for us to follow. She helps readers understand that they are secure in God's inexhaustible love, making them free to love others lavishly--not just in what they do but in what they say, what they don't say, what they will endure, and what they will forgive. Anyone who longs for unity in the church, in their family, and in their community will find in this book both inspiring examples of loving done well and encouragement to begin the often unnoticed hard work of building bridges with those around them.

BOOK EXCERPT:

On The Other Side of Bitter is written to encourage the many hurting women who have and maybe yet sacrificing and giving of themselves without benefit of any type of personal satisfaction. It is for those who now find themselves feeling hopeless, helpless, empty, older and without purpose. There are thousands of women with similar feelings. Some got this way by remaining in abusive relationships, remaining too long in unfulfilling positions of employment and others as the result of being a no longer needed dutiful wife and mother to name a few. While feeling alone and isolated they are found in every race, socio-economic station in life, religion, age and ethnicity. They are the educated and non-educated alike. Some are yet in these situations in the workplace, in fancy homes and great careers, some even in the pews or positions of leadership at church. Some have exited these situations some by choice others forced. The one common denominator between them all is a hurting heart. Some of these women find their way into support groups or private counseling sessions. But, for the many throughout our nation that will not make their way into any group or private sessions I write this book. Naomi quite possibly was a woman as described here. She, too, had sacrificed and given of her self to the point of becoming bitter. Like many reading this book, she might have thought she had her true feelings concealed. That is until the proverbial straw that broke the camels back happened. Her husband and sons died. She was left in a foreign land. A place where she might have gone out of duty to her husband not desire. The liberties taken to portray what might have been the reasons for this woman, Naomis bitterness result from looking deeper into the things she spoke. Much can be detected if we would only listen to what a person says. But, maybe that is why so many with hurting hearts have become bitter.
