BOOK EXCERPT:

Love, Respect and Trust is a work about solidifying healthy relationships, particularly, in marriages so that the quality of our life improves. As a mathematician, I have attempted to wrap structure around the architecture of marriage so that couples can peer into its elements and begin to see the mechanisms for happiness. Having been married to the lovely woman in red for 50 years has given me a plethora of human experiences and wisdom. Being married to Karen was like living a symphony. The concepts for improvement are built around 7 new relationship models and there are a number of tools and techniques now available for the couple to use to make breakthroughs in the interpersonal side of the equation. By equipping partners with some simple tools we can begin to solve problems in the marriage like never before. If the quality of the relationship is low then we struggle and the relationship can be a burden. There is no reason that a relationship cannot reflect total joy. It's a matter of wanting to make a difference and following the guidelines here to set you in the right direction. The bottom line is that we can enjoy life more, there is less stress on the family, trust is now a common denominator, the children are subjected to a favorable learning environment and everyone is having fun. My purpose here is to begin to bring marriages back to what they were meant to be... filled with love and the right ingredients. If we can save more marriages, I believe we can improve the quality of life in America and improve the bottom lines of all businesses. Productivity would improve and our economy would turn around for the better. A happily run household is like a small engine contributing to society in a team environment and setting exceptional examples for our future leaders. I dedicate this work to my wife, Karen, who provided the inspiration for this book and set the example for a mother, grandmother and wife. My children loved their mother and would always go to her for advice. My youngest daughter shot herself in the head partly due to her passing. The grief is sometimes overwhelming but this book is a cinema of wonderful experiences for our 50 years of joy. It is full of lessons learned, problems resolved and celebrations of great times together. Our relationship can be characterized as a passionate one full of music, intelligent discussion and the love and support of our heavenly Father. Acknowledgements I think this book is a masterpiece of wisdom, practical advice and valuable lessons learned. I especially like the piece on Respect. So important. It's the kind of book that needs to be read multiple times in order to absorb the truth you are expressing. And it serves well as a go-to-guide for solving/understanding problems as they arise in a marriage. A body of work well-done with enduring value and wisdom!!! Michael Druley, Owner Executive Recruiting Partners South Bend, Indiana What a valuable piece of work this is. Everyone should read this. Your writing is heartfelt and your charts and graphs are clear and easily understood. Patricia Druley South Bend, Indiana"

BOOK EXCERPT:

A Revolutionary Solution to the #1 Marriage Problem Why does communication between couples remain the number one marriage issue? “Because,” says Dr. Emerson Eggerichs, “most spouses don’t know that they speak two different languages. They are sending each other messages in ‘code,’ but they won’t crack that code until they see that she listens to hear the language of love and he listens to hear the language of respect.” Dr. Eggerichs’ best-selling book, Love & Respect, launched a revolution in how couples relate to each other. In The Language of Love & Respect, he presents a practical, step-by-step approach for how husbands and wives can learn to speak each other’s distinctly different language—respect for him, love for her. The result is mutual understanding and a successful, happy marriage. Previously released as Cracking the Communication Code

BOOK EXCERPT:

If you start talking early enough, kids will listen. FOR MANY PARENTS, the talk is one of the most dreaded rites of passage in the child-raising experience--but it doesn’t have to be. The key is to start early when talking about sex with your child. In Dr. Fred Kaeser’s progressive approach, parents become their child’s first resource for sexual information (instead of ceding control to peers, the school system, or the media) in order to have a lasting and positive influence over their child’s sexual development. As the former director of health in the New York City public schools, there’s nothing Dr. Kaeser hasn’t been asked by kids, or by parents. And he has seen firsthand the results of our increasingly sexualized youth culture, and how it’s making children grow up faster than ever these days. From sexting to cyberbullying, challenges and pressures abound--even for kids in kindergarten. This means that parents must begin laying the groundwork for basic conversations about sex when their child is as young as three years old. Parents then build their discussions on this early foundation, introducing more information at developmentally appropriate ages (for example, talking about puberty with your eight-year-old, and discussing safe sex with your ten-year-old). What Your Child Needs to Know About Sex (and When) goes far beyond the birds and the bees to discuss uncomfortable issues with a winning frankness and empowering attitude. It offers families the tools they need for navigating how and when to have positive dialogues about sexuality and helps parents learn to use everyday teachable moments. Open communication about sex with your children isn’t necessarily easy, but it can be done; this indispensable book will guide you every step of the way.

BOOK EXCERPT:

Sometime, we spend so much time focusing on the one thing that went wrong, we lose sight of the 99 other times things went right. Ralph Waldo Emerson once said that in order to achieve contentment, one should "cultivate the habit of being grateful for every good thing that comes to you, and to give thanks continuously." Researchers have found that the act of counting one's blessings actually helps strengthen relationships, in all forms. In "The Other 99 T.Y.M.E.S" the undervalued concept of gratitude is the critical theme which defines the groundbreaking sophomore narrative by Carlos Wallace, author of the bestseller "Life Is Not Complicated, You Are." This may all be an enigmatic concept for some to grasp; the realization that although you have hit some rough patches the experiences should never negate moments that a kind word, a caring act, an instance of forgiveness or the rewarding feeling of knowing you worked hard to achieve a goal brought you satisfaction and made you happy. This book will teach you to appreciate the good in your life and encourage you to maintain a positive attitude despite the negativity that surrounds you. To appreciate circumstances that help you evolve not because you are impervious to pain and disappointment, but because you are accepting of joy. Most importantly, "The Other 99 T.Y.M.E.S" will help readers summon up the courage to approach life with an open mind, eyes wide open. You will no longer turn a blind eye to your struggles, hoping they will fade away if they are ignored. Ignorance is a progressive thinker's enemy; acceptance, awareness, accountability and action are the tools of the informed; of people who want change and do all they can to achieve it. The book, much like "Life Is Not Complicated, You Are" is an odyssey into recesses of your psyche that you may not have fully tapped into. At the end of the journey, prepare to view life through a completely different lens. Prepare to appreciate and value "

BOOK EXCERPT:

Nurture, Care, Respect, and Trust is the first collection of interdisciplinary and logically interconnected papers from nationally and internationally acclaimed researchers in philosophy, psychology, history of education, teacher training, educational leaders and practitioners, child advocates, and educators who have been motivated by the philosophy and pedagogy of Dr. Janusz Korczak (1878-1942), a world famous moral exemplar and champion of children’s rights. The book provides answers to timely questions of how to respect children’s rights in K-12 schools, community centers, summer camps, and colleges; how to create an atmosphere of trust and safety, and provide social-emotional learning in the classroom; how to become a genuine child advocate; and how to support growing child agency. It also tells the story of Korczak, his life, and the lives of the children in his charge. Nurture, Care, Respect, and Trust details how Korczak’s legacy encourages and stimulates new projects and spreads around the world. The volume serves as a rich resource of practical materials for teachers and university instructors, introducing a number of innovative lesson plans, examples of students’ works, and school projects inspired by Korczak’s pedagogy.
