BOOK EXCERPT:

Bennett address the problem of never having enough time. In this book, he urges hourly workers to use "spare" time to improve their lives, making the best of their time outside of work. He understands that most people are spending as much time as possible working to make more money, thus disliking their lives. "Time is money" seriously understates this matter: more time can generate more money, but money cannot buy you more time!

BOOK EXCERPT:

Differentiated book- It has a historical context with research of the timeIn the book, Bennett addressed the large and growing number of white-collar workers that had accumulated since the advent of the Industrial Revolution. In their opinion, these workers work eight hours a day, 40 hours a week, in jobs they did not enjoy and, in the worst case, hated. They worked for a living, but their daily existence consisted of waking up, preparing for work, working as little as possible during the work day, going home, relaxing, going to sleep and repeating the process the next day. In short, I didn't think they were really living. Bennett addressed this problem by urging these "employees" to take advantage of their extra time and use it to improve. You can find extra time at the beginning of the day, when you wake up early and on the way to work, on the way home from work, in the afternoon hours and especially on weekends. During this time, he prescribed improvement measures, such as reading good literature, being interested in the arts, reflecting on life and learning self-discipline.Bennett wrote that time is the most precious commodity. He said that many books have been written on how to live with a certain amount of money each day. He added that the old adage "time is money" underestimates the matter, since time can often produce money, but money cannot produce more time. Time is extremely limited, and Bennett urged others to make the most of the time remaining in their lives.

BOOK EXCERPT:

There are men who are capable of loving a machine more deeply than they can love a woman. They are among the happiest men on earth. This is not a sneer meanly shot from cover at women. It is simply a statement of notorious fact. Men who worry themselves to distraction over the perfecting of a machine are indubitably blessed beyond their kind. Most of us have known such men. Yesterday they were constructing motor-cars. But to-day aeroplanes are in the air -- or, at any rate, they ought to be, according to the inventors. Watch the inventors. Invention is not usually their principal business. They must invent in their spare time. They must invent before breakfast, invent in the Strand between Lyons's and the office, invent after dinner, invent on Sundays. See with what ardour they rush home of a night! See how they seize a . . .
